Our story
Like most people in the entire World, we were significantly impacted by the pandemic that started in 2020. Work and personal life became very challenging especially in the context of home schooling our then toddler son. We found resources on the internet that were mixed in quality but our son responded well to the stimulation of video-based learning and we were frankly amazed by the speed with which he picked up both usage of the technology and the underlying concepts being demonstrated and taught. We felt that, done properly, there was huge potential for leveraging technology to supplement our
son's formal education at Toddler, Preschool and early Primary levels and doubtless beyond. We were so convinced of this potential that we swapped our established careers to venture into the unknown by becoming YouTube creators in the child education space, currently focused on early years learning. And it has been quite a journey of discovery leading us into a greater understanding and appreciation of not only structured core education but also child psychology and development in early years.
We are a mixed cultural family, originally based in London, UK, where our son was born, and now in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We seek to leverage that cultural diversity into our own children’s development and into our educational offering.
Our aims
Little Wriggler is focused on support for, and supplement to, early learning education for toddler, preschool and early primary levels, in both formal school settings and home school environments. At Little Wriggler we believe in the importance of education, both formal and informal, in those crucial early years when children are like sponges and capable of soaking up many diverse learning opportunities, as mother nature intended. We also believe that children learn best when they have a measure of control over their own learning choices and are engaged and entertained by them. However, it is important to curate and set up those choices carefully to give them the best mix of learning that will deliver a great foundation for the future whilst maintaining engagement and natural curiosity of the children.
Our YouTube channel is focused on English language, Mathematics, How the World works exploration and Science and technology concepts. Also, we have fun playtime and cookery videos and “Out and about” excursions and cultural events as well, to promote out-of-classroom type experiences and fun things to do with kids, which is all part of child development. The videos are a mixture of technical learning, verbal instruction and video clips to relate the instruction to the real world with a sprinkling of animation where beneficial.
Here on our website, you will find a blog series on education and child development topics plus formal reports on education innovations and academic research. Also, we have printable collateral that can be used with some of our YouTube videos and independently for home schooling or simply for occupying bored kids with stimulating activities on wet weekends…
Over time we aim to add more content to all topics and to expand the range of topics. Also, we will respond to evolving technology and educational development.
